Jiayi Li

Jiayi Li holds an Honours Degree in Psychology from the University of Kent (United Kingdom), an Advanced Diploma in Special Education (National Institute of Education [NIE]), as well as diplomas in Special Education (NIE), Dyslexia Studies (Dyslexia Association of Singapore), and Early Childhood Education (Ngee Ann Polytechnic). She has gathered vast experience from working in Singapore and in the UK since 2011, having served within the Ministry of Education, private sectors, and the community.

 

Jiayi has worked extensively with children and youths (aged 2 to 18) with various special educational needs (SEN), mental health issues, and family-related challenges. Through her professional training and research in Special Education, Jiayi has developed and implemented effective evidence-based intervention targeted at children with poor literacy skills, weak mathematical understanding, poor emotional regulation, poor social skills, and high anxiety. She also conducts regular SEN training workshops for parents and teaching professionals to build their capacity.

 

In 2020, Jiayi was awarded the Leading Foundation Teacher (LFTA) Award for Special Needs Education. The LFTA recognizes passionate and dedicated teachers who have made significant contributions to the care and teaching of children in special needs education.

 

Jiayi has devoted most of her free time to volunteering at various organizations since 2009, including the Singapore Health Promotion Board, Association of Women for Action and Research, and Action for AIDS Singapore. As such, she has worked with both adults and children who faced difficulties such as behavioural issues, anxiety, stress, depression, and traumatic experiences.

 

Jiayi is passionate about equipping children with SEN with effective skills and strategies to maximise their potential. She believes that no single teaching approach is suitable for every child but with the right approach, every child is capable of a balanced and fulfilling living.

 

Jiayi is proficient in English, Mandarin, and Sign Language.
